Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akhatrij, is a highly auspicious and sacred Hindu festival celebrated on the third day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the lunar month of Vaisakh. The word "Akshaya" means "never diminishing" or "eternal", and "Tritiya" refers to the third lunar day. It is believed that any good deed performed on this day—such as charity, puja, starting new ventures, or purchasing gold—brings unending prosperity, success, and spiritual merit. This day is considered favorable for new beginnings, weddings, investments, and housewarming ceremonies. In Hindu mythology, it marks significant events like the birth of Lord Parshuram, the beginning of the Treta Yuga, and the day when Sudama received wealth from Lord Krishna. It is also believed that the Mahabharata was started by Sage Vyasa and Lord Ganesha on this day.
